Watch Naruto Shippuden episodes 1-32 in order. This is the Kazekage Rescue arc, the opening story of Shippuden and the direct continuation of Naruto's original series. No movie, OVA, or recap needs to interrupt the run. Episode 32 closes the rescue mission, and episode 33 begins the next assignment with changes to Team Kakashi.

First-time viewers should finish Naruto before starting here. Shippuden assumes you know why Naruto left with Jiraiya, why Sasuke is absent, how Sakura began training under Tsunade, and why Gaara trusts Naruto. Can any part of the arc be skipped?

Keep episodes 1-32 together for a first watch. The opening stretch establishes the time jump, Gaara's new role, Sakura's training, Akatsuki's process, and the alliance between the Leaf and Sand. Even slower episodes usually continue one of those threads. Removing them piecemeal can leave a later technique or decision without its setup. A rewatcher may move faster through repeated flashbacks or long travel scenes, but that is different from dropping a numbered episode. Finish episode 32 before consulting the Naruto movie watch order. Release-order viewers can then place side stories according to their chosen route, while viewers following only the central TV plot can continue directly to episode 33. Keeping the movie shelf separate also prevents theatrical villains and settings from being mistaken for the next television arc.

Spoilers to avoid during the arc

Do not search for Gaara's later status, Sasori's complete biography, Kakashi's Mangekyo abilities, or every Akatsuki member while watching episodes 1-32. Continue with episode 33 and the Tenchi Bridge arc, also called the Long-Awaited Reunion arc. Information gained during the Kazekage mission points Team Kakashi toward a contact inside Orochimaru's organization. Kakashi is recovering, so Yamato takes command and Sai joins Naruto and Sakura as the fourth member.

That next arc changes the question from whether the team can rescue an allied leader to whether Naruto and Sakura can reach Sasuke. It also tests a team that does not trust its new members. Do not skip from episode 32 to a later Akatsuki fight; episodes 33-53 introduce Yamato, Sai, Root, and developments that Shippuden continues to use.

Final recommendation

Begin Naruto Shippuden at episode 1 and watch through episode 32 without inserting a movie. Treat episodes 1-5 as the return to the Hidden Leaf, episodes 6-19 as the rescue mobilization and journey, and episodes 20-32 as the confrontation at Akatsuki's hideout and the mission's close.
